How to choose a wedding DJ in Scotland

Ask what is actually included

Quotes are hard to compare because the word 'DJ' covers very different services. Get the inclusions in writing.

  • How many hours of performance
  • Whether set-up and pack-down are inside or outside those hours
  • Whether a microphone is included for speeches
  • Whether lighting is included, and how much
  • Whether ceremony or dinner cover is included or extra
  • What happens if your timings shift on the day

Ask about insurance and equipment testing

Most Scottish venues now ask suppliers for public liability insurance and PAT-tested equipment before allowing a set-up. A professional will have both and will send them to your venue without being chased.

Ask about hosting style

Hosting is where couples' preferences differ most. Some want a confident master of ceremonies; others want the announcements made and nothing more. Ask directly, and say which you prefer.

Ask how music planning works

There should be a clear way to send must-plays and do-not-plays, and a real conversation before the day. A DJ who never asks what you like is going to play a generic set.

Ask about your specific venue

Sound limiters, curfews, load-in routes and awkward room shapes all change how a night is set up. A DJ who has worked your venue will tell you these things before you ask.
